Mary Mattingly Obituary

Mrs. Mary Adeleen (Swallows) Mattingly of Elk Horn, age 54, passed away at her home on Thursday, February 28, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Walter and Vernice (Thompson) Swallows on March 29, 1964. She made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Yuma Baptist Church. She was the cherished wife of Mr. David Mattingly, who survives.

Mrs. Mattingly was a long-time employee of Hardee’s and Amazon. Her quick but sincere smile made everyone she met feel comfortable, and she radiated genuine love wherever she went. She relished knowing she had done her part at the end of a long work day, and was always exuberant to see her grandkids after. “Maw”, as she was endearingly titled, had a heart brimming with love - not only for them and the rest of her family, but also for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Her legacy of goodwill and compassion will live on through her family many years.

She leaves to cherish her memory:

Her husband of nearly 35 years: Mr. David Mattingly of Elk Horn,

Two daughters: Valerie Hunt and husband George of the Whitewood community, and Brittany Potts and husband Dillian of Campbellsville,

Five brothers and sisters: Shirley Hughes and husband Gary of Campbellsville, Garry Bault and wife Gaye of Casey Creek, Linda Webb and husband Timmy of Campbellsville, Helen DeWeese and husband Mark of Campbellsville, and Kenneth Swallows and wife Christine of the Whitewood area,

Five grandchildren: Novalee Hunt, David Hunt, Easton Potts, Jace Potts, and Brycelyn Potts,

And a host of other family and close friends.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Mattingly on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Allen Todd will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Elkhorn Cemetery, Elkhorn Loop Rd, Campbellsville, KY.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 5, from 5:00-8:00 PM and on Wednesday after 8:00 AM until time for the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in the form of donations to the Mrs. Mattingly’s medical and funeral expenses. Those can be made in person at the funeral home, or online through the “How Can I Help” tab on the front page of this site.
