Betty Jean Benningfield was born March 5, 1938 near Stoner Creek, KY to the late Richard and Nona (Childers) Burress. She grew up with two siblings, Donald Burress and Bonnie Burress (both now deceased). She met her sweetheart and husband, Ivan Benningfield at 15 years old. They married a couple of years later in 1955. Their early years were spent with Grandpa Ivan’s family on Baker’s Branch. They later settled on White’s Ridge and “Granny” went to work at “the factory” around 1958. Granny kept working a few years till their middle child, Peggy was born. She raised the kids, Kay, Peggy and Tim through about 1968, at which time she started back at the factory till she retired in 1998. She sold Avon as an avid hobby! She would never miss her “hair”day on Friday and everyone knew that her Saturday’s (for decades) was designated strictly for shopping! They built their custom home in 1981 and lived there for many years until moving to town in 2006. Her life was to serve and care for others! It gave her great joy to cook, provide, and care for her family and friends. She raised some of her nieces and nephews in addition to her own kids, along with some grandkids, and spent some recent years as a “caregiver” for other elderly. She was well known for her great cooking, love for gardening, and attending Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. She passed from recent illness on March 27, 2020. Her surviving family includes all children: Kay and (John) Slocum of Tennessee. Peggy and (Mark) Rash of Elkhorn, Tim and (Pam) Benningfield of Michigan.
