Mr. Harold E. “Gene” Vaughan of Campbellsville was born on July 27, 1930 in Scottsville, Kentucky to the late Arnold Francis and Ruby (Brownfield) Vaughan. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at his residence after an extended illness. He was 86 years, 2 months, and 21 days of age. Mr. Vaughan served his country honorably in United States Navy. He was an exceptional baseball standout on the Navy team, and was able to play with some of the greats, including Willie Mays. After his time in the service, Mr. Vaughan worked at Bremner Biscuit Company for 35 years, and Enterprise Rental another 16 years. He always tried to stay in good physical condition and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, especially deer, and was a diehard University of Kentucky fan.

He leaves to cherish his memory:

   One daughter: Tammy Sullivan and husband William Keith of Campbellsville,

   One sister: Barbara Kapfhammer and husband Joseph of Jupiter, FL,

   Three grandchildren: Will Sullivan and wife Helen of Aldie, VA, James Sullivan and wife Robin of Bradfordsville, and Matthew Sullivan of Upper Marlboro, MD,

   Four great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Aiden, Evan, and Jacob,

   A close friend and hunting buddy: Raymond Loy of Columbia,

   And a host of extended family and friends.

   There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Vaughan on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM EST in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Mark Harrison will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Cave City Cemetery, 667 Cemetery Road, Cave City, KY 42127, with full military honors conducted by the Glasgow DAV Chapter 20.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, October 22, from 5:00-8:00 PM EST.
